What automation tools are great at

Where the model breaks

You have to know the steps. Before the tool does anything, someone has to work out the whole sequence, in order, including what happens when something fails. That someone is you.

Then you build it. Then you maintain it. An app changes its fields, a page changes its layout, a rate limit moves — and the automation does not adapt, it breaks. Quietly, usually, and you find out later.

The tool has no judgment. It cannot tell that the thing it is dutifully doing has stopped working.

The hidden cost

You became the architect. The work moved rather than disappeared — out of doing the task and into designing, wiring and repairing the system that does the task.
